    Hi guys,

I'm having a debate with someone about Spring Fling. He insists it's something that is widely known in the US - a dance? He can't understand after having dealt with American people for the last 15 years why I've never heard of it.

What is it? Is it real? Is it widely known?

Please help because he's doing my head in lol!

    Lynne

Well, yes, there is such a dance know as a "Spring Fling", probably more popular back in the day and maybe more rural areas of the country today. Around by me, it's more popular in schools than the general population. If memory serves me, it was a way for a community to get together after not seeing each other after a long hard winter and herald in the begining of nicer, warmer weather. Think of it as sort of a May Day celebration and some actually would occur around the same time. Of course a more modern interpretation of spring fling might not include a dance floor (nudge, nudge) if you know what I mean. ;)

Never heard of it. Could he be talking about the notorious or infamous (unless you're in college) Spring Break?

    Lynne,

I suspect your 'Spring Fling' is more commonly known as "Spring Break" - a week of drunken debauchery enjoyed by college-age kids across the country. Popular watering holes are the seaside resorts of Fort Lauderdale (FL) and Miami (FL) in the East and Rocky Point (MX) in the West, with places like Laughlin (AZ) in between.

Late as usual i am afraid, Lynne, but Many Happy Returns for your birthday on the 24th.
