For those of you who love to read, I thought we could perhaps get a thread going to recommend books that have moved us, drawn us in or that we just can't seem to get enough of!

I will start, since I am posting first hehe... I will start with one author, and if anyone else seems to be interested, I will keep going, and hope that they/you do too.

    Mercedes Lackey has my heart.
She writes fantasy, my favorite series being from Valdemar (starting with 'Arrow's of the Queen'). She captures me because her characters are so real, even the 'evil' ones are not stereotypical.

One of her main characters in one of the trilogies is a gay man- something that is often ignored in fantasy. And the thing of it is... it does not matter that Vanyel is gay... he is lost, and scared and incredibly strong, and I grew to love who he was and what he inspired. ('Magic's Pawn', 'Magic's Promise', and 'Magic's Price')

Be warned, read these trilogies in order. They are all intertwined, and if you skip, you will miss clues as well as some great reading! Also... for some parts you will need a box of tissue... I am not a crier, and she makes me snivel and snot like you would not believe lmao!

I am including a link to her books as well as one to the person who does her artwork... some of it is just stunning to me!

    Brightest Blessing on your journey!!

I just finished Jean Auel's "Earth's Children" series for, probably, the tenth time (5 books so far.) She depicts the Paleolithic in vibrant living color through the eyes of her main characters Ayla and Jondalar. The story ranges from the shores of the Black Sea to the Atlantic mostly along the Danube.

I am a voracious reader mostly of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Historical Fiction. At the moment I have three floor to ceiling, wall to wall sets of shelves and six hip high sets of book cases in the living room. I still haven't unpacked my reference library and my cookbooks are in some built in shelves in the "media" room.

At the moment I'm reading a Robert Asprin and Jody Lynn Nye Ahaz and Skeeve book - hysterical Fantasy poking fun at any and every thing. Next on tap is Prachett's new book Thud, a "Disk World" fantasy and then a Wilbur Smith's Triumph of the Sun, a historical novel of the defense of Khartoum.

    I love Robert Asprin!!

Another author you might enjoy is Robin Hobb... There are three sets of trilogies, starting with the Farseer Trilogy (Assassin's Apprentice is the first). Her books take a bit to get into, but all the information you get is needed, and comes into play later on. She is brilliant!

My son recommends her also, think I'll try her when my "to be read" stack gets down to "get more books."

    Recent books I've read:

The Birth of Venus, by Sarah Dunant (historical fiction....Renaissance)
It's about an artistic, adventurous young woman trying to find her place in a
    world controlled by men.

The Memory Keeper's Daughter, by Kim Edwards (fiction)
I know a lot of people who enjoyed this book, but I have to be honest and say it
didn't tickle my fancy. I had a hard time getting through it, especially the second
half of the book. It's about a doctor and his wife, and he sends away his newborn
daughter because she has Down's Syndrome. He keeps this secret from everyone
except the nurse that helped deliver their twins.

Mademoiselle Victorine, Debra Finerman (historical fiction.....Paris 1800's)
A novel about Manet's famous model and her scandalous life. I enjoyed it. Art,
politics, sex and love.....all rolled into one story!

I'm currently reading, Helen of Troy, by Margaret George. Anyone read it?

Thank you! I don't tend to read RL stuff... cause there is so much of it I see... so i like the fantasy stuff hehe.

But my MIL likes it, and I will look for one of Tory Hayden's Books for mothers day i think!
