What's your opinion on stem-cell research?

Do you believe it's an ethical effort to cure disease or do you believe it's a violation of potential human life?

    Don't you know.....you're not suppose to answer a question with a question!:animation1:
The controversy about stem cell research is that the cells are harvested from embryos. To my understanding, these very "young" embryos were created for invitro fertilization, but are no longer needed by the couple.

Some people believe that an embryo is a human being from the moment of conception. Others consider a fetus (all organs are present) a human being.

Some cells have the capability or regenerating and others do not. If scientists can understand exactly how these stem cells grow at this very early stage, then there is the possibility of them learning how to get cells (such as nerve cells or organ cells) to regenerate themselves.

The impact on spinal cord injuries and many diseases would be remarkable.

I believe it's our responsibility to take care of humans who are already here and irresponsible to think of potential life as more important than those who are alive and can be helped.

Doesn't this resemble the present day idea of throwing away our outdated electronic equipment instead of upgrading what we already have? Why is there so much focus on the new instead of appreciating what is here and now?

If we have the tools to fix something, let's do it!

I agree and I'm hoping that this election year will bring in some fresh faces who are supportive of the research.
